Whale
Digital fabrication, algorithmic design, and the adventures of Pinocchio for Whale, the wooden cradle.
Whale is the result of a design research project focused on geometric optimization for the development of a cradle, leveraging algorithmic design and digital fabrication technologies. The goal is to reinterpret a widely used yet underexplored product in terms of typology and functionality. The overarching approach is to make this an open-source product that can be shared and reproduced globally. The concept draws inspiration from the fairy tale "The Adventures of Pinocchio" , where the whale swallows both Pinocchio and Geppetto, symbolizing protection and enclosure.
Parametric design tools are used to control the formal exploration and the engineering of the modular components.
