Whale the cradle
A digitally fabricated wooden cradle shaped through algorithmic design
The objective was to challenge the performance of the client’s 5-axis CNC machine through the design of a wooden product capable of expressing both technical precision and emotional value.
Inspired by the tale of Pinocchio, a cradle was chosen as the product typology: an object deeply connected to care, protection, and new beginnings.
The concept was generated through an algorithmic design process aimed at optimizing the product’s form and structure. This approach made it possible to explore complex geometries, control material behavior, and define a form that fully enhances the potential of digital fabrication.
